Kitchener Public Library is happy to welcome refugees into their new community.
Welcome to the Libraries of Waterloo Region
We have resources, collections, and programs for people of all ages. Library cards are free to anyone who lives in Waterloo Region.
You may use the library to:
- Borrow books, magazines, movies, music, and more
- Use computers and free wireless Internet
- Attend free programs and events
- Read to and play with your children
- Find books, CDs, and DVDs to help you learn English
- Learn about Canada and your new community
- Meet with settlement workers
Does the library have an Arabic collection?
Does the library have an Arabic collection?
Yes. The library has over 900 Arabic books and over 100 DVDs for children and adults.
You can also access Arabic language newspapers from Press Reader, an online database you can use with a library card.

The library hosts English Conversation Circles at several locations.

Yes. We have settlement workers at Central Library, Grand River Stanley Park Community Library, and Forest Heights Community Library.
Our settlement workers speak languages other than English, including Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Kurdish, and Spanish.

Yes. We are happy to provide tours of the library. Please call us at 519-743-0271 x 230 to book a tour.

Can someone from the library visit my sponsorship group or organization?
Yes. Library staff are happy go out and speak to groups. To arrange an outreach visit, call us at 519-743-7201 x230 or email us at askkpl@kpl.org.

Does the library have computers?
Yes. All Kitchener Public Library locations have computers. You will need a library card number to use our computers.
Our computers have Internet, Microsoft Office, and typing software. You can also type in different languages, including Arabic, on library computers.

Yes. All library programs are free. We have programs for people of all ages on many topics. We also host events like live music, movies, and performances.

Wi-Fi Hotspots: borrow a hotspot and get free Internet access for three weeks

Toys to Go Collection: visit the Pioneer Park Community Library to borrow toys, games, and puzzles

Autism Collection: this collection is a resource for people living with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), their families, friends, and educators.

Visiting Library Service: we deliver library material to people in Kitchener who are unable to come to the library themselves.
